Motorcycle Accidents
Nearly half of all motorcycle accident fatalities are single vehicle crashes according to a 2001 report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. However, when motorcycles are involved in an accident with an automobile, it is more likely the fault of the automobile driver. Drivers often have trouble seeing a motorcycle due to its small size. While motorcycle drivers are taught to be meticulous about driving defensively, assuming they will not be seen, accidents can and will happen. Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents are often serious, given the nature of the driver having little protection.
In 2007 there were 2,788 motorcycle accidents. 106 were fatal and 2,628 were non-fatal. Statistically, many of these accidents were not the fault of the motorcycle operator.
