Wisconsin Bicycle Injuries
Bicycles and larger vehicles too often cross paths in in ways that injure or kill cyclists. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released in 2006, 720 bicyclists died in crashes involving motor vehicles. The same year, 45,000 bicyclists were injured in crashes involving motor vehicles.
In 2009 in Wisconsin, there were 857 bicycle accidents involving motor vehicles, 8 of which were fatal and 60 of which caused property damage.
Bicycle accidents have much in common with motorcycle accidents. Both types often involve larger vehicles, and It is often the fault of the other driver due to inattentiveness or difficulty in seeing the bicycle on the road. Bicycles have the same right to be on the road as cars, trucks and motorcycles, but the reality is the road is a dangerous place for a bicyclist and accidents will happen.
