Premises Security Case
An elderly woman in her 80′s was a tenant at a large Milwaukee apartment complex. When she moved in, she informed the landlord that her front door lock wasn’t working properly and that she was concerned someone could break-in. The landlord ignored her. Late one night, a depraved man broke into her apartment and violently raped her. The elderly woman was severely injured, requiring hospitalization. The rapist was never found.
The investigation revealed that not only was the lock to the elderly woman’s front apartment door broken, but also that the building’s front door locking mechanism was faulty. Attorney Casey was able to prove that the landlord had prior notice of the defective and dangerous locks, but did not care enough to fix the problems. After significant litigation, the landlord’s insurance company settled favorably for our client.
